Character History
Childhood
He was born Walter Joseph Kovacs in New York on March 21 of 1940 to Sylvia Kovacs. He never knew who his father was due to the fact that he left Sylvia two months before he was born but she did disclose that his name was Charlie. With the cost of raising Walter, his mother had to resort to prostitution to be able to financially support the family. Walter was both physically and psychologically abused by his mother during his childhood, including one occasion when young Walter walked in on his mother caressing and kissing a customer.
At the age of eleven, Kovacs attacked two bullies in the street after they were talking badly of his mother. When one of them shoved a tomato in his face, he grabbed the bully's cigarette and shoved it in the boy's eye, partially blinding him. He then proceeded to knock the other bully down on the floor and bite his face several times. After this incident, Kovacs was admitted under child care at the Lillian Charlton Home for Problem Children in New Jersey.
